The Parker Family Business

In the mid-40s, Richard Parker of Belvoir, NC sold a tract of timber along the Tar River. Some of the trees that leaned out over the river were rejected by the lumber company as being too difficult to remove. So Mr. Parker gave these to two of his sons, Ralph and Graham, which they snaked down the river and had sawed into lumber.  In 1946, these became part of the first Parker's Barbecue Restaurant in Wilson, North Carolina started by Ralph and Graham Parker with their partner Henry Brewer.

Parker's Barbecue Restaurant
of Greenville

J.C. Parker, son of Richard Parker and brother to Ralph and Graham Parker, decided in the late 1960s to open a barbecue restaurant in Greenville, NC with his son, Doug Parker. In March of 1970, the first of two Parker's Barbecue Restaurants opened in Greenville. The Parker reputation for great barbecue had preceeded them to Greenville and they have served Greenville's finest pork barbecue for nearly 40 years, drawing on the experience J.C. Parker and his brothers garnered in the early 1940s while working at Alton Respess' Barbecue Restaurant on Greene Street in Greenville.

On opening day as the hungry crowds gathered for the famous Parker's Barbecue, additional waiters and barbecue were imported from the Wilson restaurant to help meet demand. The brothers continued to support each other throughout the years, often meeting about halfway between Wilson and Greenville near Walstonburg, NC to swap whatever was needed.

A lot of long hours and dedication have gone into making Parker's Barbecue of Greenville a regional landmark and the definitive place in Greenville to get pork barbecue. Over 10,000 pounds of barbecue, several thousand pounds each of chicken, slaw, potatoes and Brunswick Stew are purchased weekly from the Greenville locations. Food preparation and cleaning is a 24 hour a day job at Parker's.

Parker's Barbecue of Greenville continues to be a family owned and operated business. Parker's employs over 90 people at the two restaurants serving up the best pork barbecue and chicken in the region. Visit one of our two locations and enjoy our food and hospitality.
